Between Mocuba, in Mozambique, and Cascais, in Portugal, between journalism and canvas, ana MESQuita has built a body of work where nothing is discarded — not memory, not matter, not dignity. After twenty years in print journalism, radio and television, she returned to painting in 2012. Installation, collage, video art and iPad drawing became her language. From Viagem Pelo Esquecimento (Journey Through Forgetting), shown at MAAT, to the gallery project Não Descartáveis (Not Disposable), a series that transforms reused packaging into sculptures and two-dimensional pieces, her practice carries a political voice of environmental and human awareness, and a regard for what is given up as lost.
